Winter Generation Reminder

Full Winter Generation Beginning Next Quarter

As temperatures drop, we want to remind our members that CVEA has transitioned to partial winter generation, which means we are now relying on a combination of hydropower and fuel to produce electricity. During the next quarter (December–February), we anticipate transitioning to full winter generation, meaning we will be relying primarily on fuel to produce electricity. Due to fuel generation being more expensive than hydropower, members can expect an increase of approximately 10 cents per kWh during this period, resulting in higher electric bills.

We understand that higher electric bills can put an added strain on household budgets, especially during the winter months when expenses tend to add up. Please know that CVEA remains committed to providing reliable electricity while managing costs as efficiently as possible. We appreciate your understanding and encourage members to visit our website for energy efficiency tips that can help reduce electricity use and manage costs throughout the winter season.

Outage Season - How To Prepare

Winter in Alaska Has Arrived

Winter in Alaska can bring heavy snow, ice, and high winds, sometimes resulting in unexpected power outages. We understand how frustrating and stressful losing power can be, especially during the cold winter months. Please know that when an outage occurs, our team is working hard to restore your electricity as safely and quickly as possible.

At CVEA, we strive to keep our members informed by sharing outage updates as information becomes available. We know how important these updates are when you're making decisions for your home, business, and family.

When an outage occurs, our team's first priority is to assess the situation and develop a safe plan to restore power. This may include locating the cause of the outage, coordinating personnel, bringing additional generation online, and safely re-energizing distribution lines.

Depending on the weather, time of day, location, and cause of the outage, these steps can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. While we understand that waiting for information can be difficult, there may be times when we don't have an update to share right away.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as our crews work to restore service. Our goal is always to keep you informed while allowing our team to focus on what matters most: getting the lights back on safely.

If you need to report an outage, please call CVEA Dispatch at 866-835-2832. If an operator is unable to answer, please leave a voicemail.

As a friendly reminder, our emergency Dispatch line is the only official channel for reporting power outages. While the Co-op shares updates on Facebook, outages cannot be officially reported through social media.

Thank you for being part of the CVEA community. Stay safe, stay warm, and stay prepared!

2026 Cooperative Month

Pumpkin Patch Events & Local Food Bank Support

The Pumpkin Patch events during Cooperative Month brought together our communities in Valdez and Glennallen. Combined, our communities raised $2,450.63 for the Copper River Basin Resource Council and Valdez Food Bank, with Alyeska Pipeline Service Company generously matching the entirety of these monetary donations. Boxes upon boxes of food was also donated by our members and delivered by CVEA team members to the Copper River Basin Resource Council and Valdez Food Bank.

The Pumpkin Patch events also supported seven nonprofit organizations in each district. These nonprofit organizations ran the booths offering cotton candy, bucket truck rides, face painting, Jazzy Gourmet Popcorn, s'mores, a kids' activities tent, and hot cocoa to Pumpkin Patch attendees. The profits made from these booths were split evenly among the nonprofit organizations.

Thank you to our members for joining us for our Pumpkin Patch events and supporting the local food banks and nonprofit organizations! Our team had a blast celebrating Cooperative Month with our communities!
